When you don’t have a big greenhouse April is the month when a gardener is always struggling with space. There is never enough room for pots, bags, seedlings, and plants. The same problem is ever present in my garden. I’m constantly in the need of more space. Especially since I’ve moved my seedlings to the balcony.
This week I’ll be getting my flower and herb seedlings which I’ve ordered from the local family farm and this means my balcony will be even more crowded.
So I decided to transplant to the garden the seedlings that could be transplanted.
Onions, leeks, lamb’s lettuce, and summer lettuce were big enough to transplant them to the garden.
The soil is still completely dry so I decided to do my transplanting on Monday because we were supposed to get some rain in the early Tuesday and this way I didn’t have to water my seedlings.
I didn’t separate them individually, instead, I’ve transplanted them in small groups and once they get bigger I will harvest the smaller ones and give the bigger ones more room to grow. I was afraid that if I separate each individually they would get eaten by the bugs very quickly. And they are everywhere. Bugs didn’t freeze this winter and already the garden is full of them.
The only good thing about this warm winter is that every kale root that I left in the garden is growing little leaves so I don’t really need any new kale seedlings. I have plenty of plants in the garden from last year.
The rhubarb is also alive. The leaves are healthy and already being eaten by bugs so I guess that again I will not have any leaves to harvest.
With all these seedlings planted and some pots that I will move I should get enough room to plant my new flowers and herbs.
