This year I discovered that my orchid has started growing a new plant on one of the stems. Since I’m new at growing orchids I had no idea what this new growth was or what to do with it. I discovered that this new growth is Keiki, a new plant.
A month later the keiki grew roots and I’m thinking that this is the good time to transplant this new plant to a separate pot. The roots are still a bit small but the other stem is starting to flower and grow another flower stem and I was worried that the new plant could be draining too much food from the flower stems so I decided to cut it off.
I don’t know if the Keiki needs a special treatment while planting or not, but I decided to plant it in the orchid substrate and give it plenty of water with fertilizers to make it grow even stronger roots.
I can’t wait to see if the new plant will grow roots and eventually flowers. I’m curious to see if the flowers will be the same as the mother plants or I’ll get a different plant.
