February- the moody monster

February was a really moody month. We went from spring temperatures to harsh winter and back to almost summer temperatures in just 20 days. We had strong winds, a clear sky, snow, rain, and hail all in just a couple of days.

The biggest weather change happened during the past 10 days when we jumped from all-day freezing temperatures to 20°C(68°F) in just a couple of hours. The weather has been so mild and sunny lately that I’ve started taking my seedlings out to the sun. The temperatures in the sun are around 26°C and some days even 30°C (86°F) and this is much higher than the house temperatures which I haven’t been heating up. I turn on the air conditioner in the morning and in the evening for a couple of hours but most of the day the heating is off and there’s no need for it.

All of the spring flowers have started flowering at the same time. Snowdrops, crocuses, and primroses are blooming at the same time as the daffodils, violas, and lungworts.

Luckily the temperature spike didn’t wake up the trees so there is no danger from frost, but if March continues to be so moody who knows. Let’s hope next month will be more normal.
