Orchard pruning

The first thing we do in the new gardening season is always orchard pruning. Before I used to do it alone and it took me at least 4 days. The past couple of years my hubby helps me and now we have a system and we manage to prune our trees in just a couple of hours. I don’t have many fruits that need pruning. Seven apple trees are the ones that need pruning every year and two plums are pruned every couple of years. This year apples didn’t have as many suckers as they did last year. We had lots of fruits on the trees last year so the suckers were smaller. Still, there were plenty of branches that needed to be cut.

My hubby and I came to an agreement, he cuts the higher branches, while I cut the lower ones and prune the branches that will be left for next year. This way we finished fairly quickly. There are still some branches that could be removed. If there will be no need for them I’ll cut them next year.

While we were pruning the trees Srećko decided to throw one of his tantrum shows and would not stop barking. Usually, when I’m away he sleeps, but this time he wanted to go to the orchard with us. So I ended up going back for him and I took him to the orchard. He was on the leash but he still managed to dig muddy pits, roll around in bunny poop and get completely dirty. He wasn’t too happy when he realized that once the playtime was over he’d need a bath. 😂

We still need to rake the leaves and clean up the branches, but that will be done next weekend, I’m still taking care of two households so I don’t have time to do it right away. And when I have the time I’m too tired(and too lazy) to do it. Also, the orchard is full of pretty flowers right now so there’s no hurry for raking.
