While I was shopping for strawberries I couldn’t help but to buy some new bulbs. I actually love bulbs. Most of them, if bought from a good store, will grow beautiful flowers and you always get what you wanted. Also, if the bulbs are good, they will continue to multiply and grow year after year, so in a couple of years, you have twice the amount of bulbs you ordered. Two years ago, I bought a mix of spring bulbs from Sieberz, and they are still around without me taking them out during the year, so I decided to buy some more bulbs from them. This year I went with a bunch of Gladiolus(75 giant bulbs), 5 oriental lilies, and a mixture of 75 different bulbs which contained sparaxis, Duch iris, montbretia, giant dahlias, anemones, begonias, gloxinias, and Abyssinian gladiolus.
This week I decided to plant half of the bulbs. Gladiolus, giant dahlias, and montbretia are still waiting for their new spots in the garden, and I’ll plant them next week. The rest of the bulbs have been planted in my yard pots and containers.
I’ve planted lilies, anemones, and sparaxis together to my big wooden barrel. Lilies, 3 of them have been placed in the middle and I’ve circled them with anemones and sparaxis. I’ve actually done this at the right time since some of the smaller bulbs already started letting out stems.
The begonias have been planted in bigger containers. There were 9 begonias, so I’ve separated them into 3 containers. One of the containers will be hung on Srećko’s fence, and the rest will go somewhere in the yard, I still don’t know where. Right now they are hanging on the grape fence, catching the sun and warming up.
The rest of the bulbs I’ve planted to separate pots, which I’ve placed on my stairs, except for gloxinias which will grow on my balcony. Gloxinias are mostly grown as an indoor plant, but the balcony is warm enough for them to grow nicely there.
I’ve planted Abyssinian gladioluses to two pots and irises to one pot. They should form nice tall stair pots, which should smell nice when we walk next to them.
The remaining part of the lilies I’ve planted to the container with shallots. I will harvest shallots before lilies start flowering and later this pot will be empty, so I will need to find some other flowers to place here. Probably something that will be smaller than the lilies since I want the to be visible. Also, I will probably buy some more new flowers, you can never have too many flowers.
