This winter has been anything but ordinary. We haven’t had any snow, January has been completely dry with only 5 liters of rain thorough the month. February got us some rain in the end, but still not nearly enough and temperatures have been really weird. The average for February is 15°C above normal. Normal weather for this part of Croatia is temperatures below zero and daily around zero and not 18°C in the afternoon. Of course, this is affecting nature and I’m seriously fearing this bug season. Everything is alive, flies are still bothering us, there are even a few mosquitoes flying around and with this, in mind, I’m certain that pests are also alive, together with all the mice. We’ll have an invasion this year in the garden.
Plants have started growing and flowering earlier. The normal early bloomers like snowdrops and primroses are already at the end of their blooming season and April plants are starting to bloom.
Bellis is everywhere, dandelions are already white and dead nettles are covering the fields.
Daffodils have started growing and filling the garden and my daffodils are doing the same. The only mine is a bit different. They are tiny… really tiny.
You can’t even see them without getting closer. I bought a big pack of spring bulbs and inside were also daffodils. I didn’t pay much attention to the word dwarf. I mean I did know they were smaller than the normal ones but I thought they would be the size of hyacinths. But they are smaller. Much smaller. I placed them next to a regular size banana and this is their size. Banana for scale
Of course, they look like yellow blobs of nothing in the garden bed but now I know for next year. I will pull them all out and place them in a flowerpot. Still, they are really pretty.
