This is not a normal thing here. Usually, I finish the cleaning in July, and in August I don’t have to clean due to the hot weather which keeps the weeds away. This year is different. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen so many weeds in the garden. Sure I said that last year too, but in the cases of previous years the weeds were the result of lack of time. This year I’m in the garden every couple of days, sometimes even every day and I still can’t get rid of the weeds. And I’m not talking about small amounts. The garden is completely covered.
So yesterday I started cleaning it again. I’ve decided to take on more work and finish cleaning the whole garden in 2 days. It usually takes me around 3-5 days to finish, but there’s a forecast of rain tomorrow and continuous rain Monday through Wednesday so I have to finish before. I’ve cleaned the upper part of the garden yesterday and today I’ve cleaned the lower part.
It’s just unbelievable how many weeds there are in just 13 days. Especially on the bottom right side which was cleaned last. The warmth with temperatures around 30°C (86°F) and weekly rain are making the weeds grow like mad.
Another thing is that it’s extremely humid and steamy in the garden. One swing with the hoe and I’m covered in sweat and it’s not the normal work sweat. It’s the I can’t breathe sweat. Every morning fogs don’t help this situation at all and mosquitoes are terrorizing as soon as you enter the garden. I had the strongest repellent on and the damn things ate my eyelids, lips, and parts where I had clothes on.
There were some cucumbers that grew big enough for harvest, some beans I just didn’t spot on time, and 2 cabbage heads which I decided to remove because one of them burst from the excess water. I was thinking about harvesting it on Monday but I decided against it and now I had to harvest it before it rots.
