This year has been a real disaster for tomatoes. First, as I wrote before my tomatoes were struck by Pythium rot caused by infected soil, then the May cold did a number on the seedlings and their height and the rest of the year has been really wet and with weekly showers and daily fog.
As if the fog wasn’t enough the morning dew has been unbelievable. There’s so much dew the plants are completely wet every single morning. There’s so much dew even Srećko was completely wet yesterday.
In this conditions, I’m happy my seedlings have been mostly killed in April and May. It would be a real pain to watch the plants die in the middle of summer.
The plants that have survived look miserably.
Plants are so small that the fruits are bigger than the actual plant. Surprisingly fruits are completely healthy which is the reason why I didn’t pull out the plants. I’m harvesting the tomatoes, but the amounts are really small.
The year has been so bad that even my dwarf tomatoes are gone. We had some wet years before but the dwarf tomatoes have always survived. This year they have also been affected really badly. There are no healthy plants anymore.
Fruits are still healthy so I’ve left the plants and I’m harvesting the fruits as they turn yellow.
As soon as my fruits are ready for harvest I’ll pull out all the plants and finish the tomato disaster year. I hope the next year will be better.
