The gardening season is slowly coming to an end and it’s time to start collecting seeds for next season. This year I don’t have many plants in the garden that will produce seeds, due to the very cold spring which killed most of my plants. Only the most persistent plants survived.
One of the surviving flowers is my strawflower which I’ve managed to grow for the very first time. Now they started producing seeds so a few days ago I’ve collected seeds and brought them home to dry.
I made a small mistake and left the seeds in the small bowl on the refrigerator. The next morning when I’ve entered the kitchen the whole refrigerator area was full of seeds. They puffed up like dandelion blowballs and filled the room. I’ve collected as much as I could but many of them ended up in the trash.
Today I’ve collected some more seeds. Cosmos seeds are ready for harvest, marigold heads are starting to dry and I’ve removed a few of them to dry at home. I even managed to collect Green Zebra tomato seeds. I don’t have any more seeds left so I’m really happy I managed to collect seeds even in this terrible tomato year.
The one plant that will not give me seeds this year is Calendula. The seed heads have been under attack by some sort of nasty bug. Even if the seeds are healthy there’s no way I’m touching it.
Bugs and insects have been incredibly annoying. The mosquitos are still terrorizing. They keep on attacking. You kill one and in two seconds there are dozens of new ones on you. I’m covered in bite marks and scabs.
Even our new guest hates them. This is Rue. Ziva has been adopted by her forever family and Rue came to us 3 days ago. This little lady is very scared of everything because she spent her young life chained. She’s now recuperating from spaying, learning to sleep on the bed, and enjoying her doggo life.
