When it comes to organization I’m a box freak. I keep everything in boxes, jars, and maps. Every single thing is in some box. The problem is I move my boxes around a lot. Every couple of months I get a sudden attack of box moving and I go through all the stuff in the house and move the boxes around. This wouldn’t be a problem if in the process I didn’t forget the new home of the box. I remember the place where something was stored before but forget the new place and as soon as I forget about the new place I also forget that I need to use the things in the box. I literally have to look at the things that I need to use, otherwise, I forget about them.
The same thing happens with my seeds. I have to keep my seeds organized and all of my seeds are packed in bags with labels and the bags are packed in a box. But I move the box around. In the summer the box is in the living room closet, then in the fall I move it to the couch chest and in the spring I take it out. So I took it out in the spring and placed it in the living room under the tv cabinet, so I would see it every day and keep reminding myself that I need to check it often and remember to sow. But, of course, a month ago Srećko wanted to sleep under the cabinet so I moved the box to the bedroom wardrobe and completely forgot about it. I watered my seedlings every day, planned what I’ll do this summer, but it didn’t occur to me that I need to do some sowing. Even the post-it papers and bullet journal entries didn’t help. I just forgot to sow during February.
So last week I had some catching up. I realized that I had a bunch of brassicas, early lettuce, radishes, onions, and flowers that I didn’t sow.
Luckily the weather was really nice so I did it on the balcony on my new desk/shelf/seedling holder. We have a bunch of leftover laminate boards so my hubby used them to make me a seedling holder which I can place over the balcony drying rack and keep the seedlings in the sun during the early spring. An even better thing is that I can dry our clothes and sunbathe seedlings all at the same time. Also, it is the perfect height for sowing. The only issue with it that it is fairly heavy and I struggle with moving it each night, but I’m dealing with it.
I’ve sown a bunch of seeds. Brassicas, lettuces, and onions are staying outdoors. It’s warm enough for them to stay outside, and the flowers and eggplants are going indoors during the night.
I’m using lollipop sticks to make labels, I have dozens of them. So why not use them.
With this sowing, I’m up to date with my sowing schedule again. I’ll need to do another sowing batch next week, but I’m still thinking it’s a bit too soon for some of the plants. Also, I’ll need to find another place to keep the seedlings that are staying outdoors as my greenhouse shelves are not welcome on the balcony. Srećko decided his new sunbathing place will be right where I kept my seedlings last year so I need to find another place for them… before I forget about them again.
