After a winter break, we finally got the chance to continue working on our side yard. The sight is still very poor and messy, but we’re hoping to start fixing it soon. There are still some wood and boards on our new terrace that needs to be sawed and chopped for firewood.
Still, this didn’t stop us from building our first raised bed. Next to the garage is a small space with soil which I decided to turn into a small bed. Since this side is mostly in the shade, I thought this would be a perfect spot for our sugar pea bed. I can tie the yarn or a net to the garage to give the peas some support, and there will be plenty of space for all of the peas. Also, there will be enough space in front for my chard and some baby lettuce.
So this is why I asked my hubby to make me a small wooden border so that I could make a raised bed. He used old boards that were a part of the shed and painted them with green waterproof paint.
Once he finished the wooden border, I filled it with soil and started building a small “Srećko free” fence, just to be on the safe side. I don’t want him to find a reason why the new bed would be a good digging spot.
We still have lots of work. We still need to build a new raised bed in front of the basement, fill up the new big wooden containers, fill the new garden with soil, fix the new terrace, and build steps. The steps will be done last so that we can easily move the soil down to the new garden. But still, I’m hoping that by the beginning of the spring I will be drinking my morning coffee on the new terrace surrounded by my plants.
