Orchard is waking up

There’s always that one tree that never gives fruits. In my garden that’s a plum. A very early yellow plum usually flowers first and because of this flowers usually freeze. The same thing is happening this year, the crazy old plum started blossoming this week, just a couple of days after the warmer weather started. It’s beautiful as every year, but the flowers will most likely freeze during April and again we will have no plums this year.

Apples, on the other hand, still haven’t started flowering, buds are here, but they’re still waiting. Still, if the temperatures continue to be this high, the whole orchard will soon wake up.

Just like flowers, which have covered the whole orchard. Scillas are now everywhere, just like primroses and white violets. I still haven’t raked the orchard, but now this will wait. I don’t want to damage the flowers.

When it comes to the orchard work, besides raking, everything else is finished. I’ve finished pruning all of the trees and berries, and last week my dad pruned blackberries. This is the only thing I’m not able to prune. Having blackberries on the wires is hard work, the branches need to be bent and tied to the wire, and that’s something I can’t do. Especially since I’m too short to reach the upper two wires.

Once I finish raking, there won’t be any orchard work until the mowing season starts. Hopefully, it won’t be any time soon.
