Another poppy season

This year it started a bit later, but the poppy season is back. The poppies, like last year, are still growing everywhere in the garden, but also like last year now they have a special bed just for them and a few strayed flowers. I have the same varieties as last year. I didn’t buy any new varieties, still, this year I’m finally seeing a Danish flag poppy which I’ve sown 3 years ago. It seems the rain finally got it to flower.

But the rain didn’t only help the poppies, it actually turned them into tiny flowers like cornflowers.

My poppy bed grew much slower during April and May than it actually should. The stems stayed small, with much smaller leaves than usual.  Yes, the poppies on this bed would be smaller even in the normal year because they are growing very densely, but last year they were much bigger than this year.

Still, they are flowering and producing seeds so I’m certain they will be also here next year.
