After a cold wave we got last week, this week has been a very nice and warm spring week. The Monday temperatures were quite low but didn’t drop under the freezing point. Now, the temperatures are back to mild warm, and the house heating is off again, so my seedlings can go outside again. <\/p>\n

My lighted shelves are almost empty right now. The only things that are on the shelves are the containers that still didn’t germinate and the containers with flowers that are still too small to be taken outside. I still use a pressure pump watering can on these plants, so I keep them indoors. Taking them outside would mean the soil would dry too quickly in the sun, and I’d need to water them every couple of hours. <\/p>\n

The rest of the seedlings are outside during the day and indoors during the night. I could probably leave some of them outside during the night since the temperatures are over 5\u00b0C(41\u00b0F), but I don’t want to risk it. Still, yesterday I have evicted some of the seedlings from my balcony. The brassicas, lettuce, onions, tatsoi, and chard that are ready for transplanting have been moved to the lower garden. I will transplant them this week. <\/p>\n

After moving these seedlings I got some more room for zucchinis and cucumbers, which I’m now also moving in and out. The seedlings were getting leggy in the house, due to the lack of sun and the heat inside the house. The temperature inside the house without the heating is now constantly around 26\u00b0C(78.8\u00b0F), and my light is a bit too low for this temperature. Now that they are outside in the sun they will grow better.<\/p>\n

The days are still very windy here. After a period of north winds, we’re now getting strong south wind. It’s keeping me from having the seedlings on the hanging rack, where I usually keep them. I had to hide the more delicate plants behind the fence to keep them from breaking since the wind had already broken a couple of the seedlings.<\/div>\n

The tomatoes and peppers are doing great. They’re growing nicely and don’t show any signs of damage. After a couple of weeks of sunbathing with protection, and due to the cloudier days, I think I can finally sunbathe them without agrotextile. I will have to rearrange the plants once again to give the tomatoes and peppers a full sunbathing position, and the cucumbers and zucchinis will go in the shaded place.<\/p><\/div>\n

I still need to sow some of the flower seeds, like cosmoses and sunflowers. I’ll do this next week probably as this week is just too busy. There’s lots of work in the yard, and seedlings right now are getting my attention only in the early morning and late evening.<\/p>\n
