After a very long dry period, May brought us much-needed rain. <\/p>\n

A total of 121mm fell over a period of 31 days. Much of the rain fell during the stormy showers so they didn’t really soak the soil. The water just drained down the hill but at least now the deeper layers of soil are wet.<\/div>\n
The past 2 weeks have been very moody, with rain showers almost every single day. Sometimes we’d get lots of rain while others we get 10 showers with minimal to almost no rain accumulation. Luckily we managed to avoid big storms and there was no damage in the garden. <\/div>\n

When it comes to garden works, I managed to do most of the garden chores during April so all that was left was to transplant peppers and tomatoes and sow cucumbers. The rest of the vegetables have been sown earlier. <\/div>\n
The temperatures haven’t been as high as they should be in May so my tomatoes and peppers have been struggling a bit. Peppers have been cold and are starting to get purple leaves. I’m not sure if they will survive if the temperatures continue below 20\u00b0C. <\/div>\n

The rest of the vegetables have been enjoying this colder weather, especially cabbages, kale, and lettuces which have doubled in size and are growing like mad. <\/div>\n

When it comes to harvests I’ve started harvesting lettuces, radishes, and strawberries.<\/div>\n
The old strawberries have already started turning red while the ones that I’ve sown and transplanted last year have just started flowering. They seem to be a later variety so we’ll see what kind they will be in the end. <\/div>\n

The most important thing that happened in the garden is that I finally have steps to enter the garden. My knee has been giving me trouble so I can’t jump-climb down the steep entrance anymore. These steps will make my gardening life a lot easier. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When I add everything up past May wasn’t too bad, a bit colder and with more rain than usual but without the usual big May storms. We’ll wait and see what June will bring. <\/div>\n
