Having too much work that needed to be done in one day I dag the beds quickly, and with the rain, we got last week and deep digging, the soil was great for sowing and planting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">I decided to make one big bed of onions. I used &#8220;Majski srebrenac&#8221; (May silver onions) this year. Usually, I&#8217;ve sown red onions in the spring, but this year I got the chance to buy early onions. These onions will be ready for harvest in late April, giving me enough time to clean and dig the bed and prepare it for summer vegetables. Of course, I bought too many sets and I have a whole extra bag. Maybe I&#8217;ll dig another bed and sow some more sets.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">After the onions, I&#8217;ve transplanted the leek, which I&#8217;ve sown in July. The leek seedlings grew great, almost all of the seeds germinated so I got the luxury of choosing the best seedlings. I&#8217;ve decided to plant them in the group of 3 seedlings to be sure I won&#8217;t have empty patches. Also, I want to harvest baby leeks. As soon as the spring comes I will be pulling out some of the smaller plants, leaving the biggest ones to continue with their growth.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-MBj8l9g_o_E\/X3VTFGjCTfI\/AAAAAAAAAbw\/A2K95d7ExTkNsu0ItYsckZQr5GmjtO77ACLcBGAsYHQ\/s2048\/IMG_20200930_104109.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"2048\" data-original-width=\"1152\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-MBj8l9g_o_E\/X3VTFGjCTfI\/AAAAAAAAAbw\/A2K95d7ExTkNsu0ItYsckZQr5GmjtO77ACLcBGAsYHQ\/w360-h640\/IMG_20200930_104109.jpg?resize=360%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"360\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">I&#8217;ve cut the leaves down and trimmed the roots before I&#8217;ve transplanted them. Some say it should be done, others are against it. I do it to encourage root growth and to stop the leaves from falling all over the bed, and as you can see the leaves were already huge.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-jNFjqaKYauA\/X3VTEy7I08I\/AAAAAAAAAb0\/Kymnd4PCJ_gTtQ8yNsfHmufVV7BSOFQBACLcBGAsYHQ\/s2048\/IMG_20200930_105132.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"1152\" data-original-width=\"2048\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-jNFjqaKYauA\/X3VTEy7I08I\/AAAAAAAAAb0\/Kymnd4PCJ_gTtQ8yNsfHmufVV7BSOFQBACLcBGAsYHQ\/w640-h360\/IMG_20200930_105132.jpg?resize=640%2C360&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"640\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">I&#8217;ve cut them with my new garden scissors. I bought them in an online hardware store for just 2\u20ac but they are actually amazing. Hubby needed some building materials and tools so we searched for a reasonably priced store and we found one that also sold garden tools. I immediately noticed these scissors on a huge sale(there were only 2 scissors left) and got them. They are great, really sharp, and light. I can even cut smaller tree branches and sunflowers with no problem. They even came with a 2-year warranty so I can say this was an amazing buy.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">Hubby also got me some garden labels he came across in our local household items store. I decided against using markers to label the vegetables. Instead I made paper labels which I&#8217;ve secured with transparent duck tape to protect them from rain. This way I will be able to reuse them.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-lQKpOptMQbA\/X3VTE0abTDI\/AAAAAAAAAbs\/cUmQgbE8lEU2eTLviBoEctt3N0GT6GBpwCLcBGAsYHQ\/s2048\/IMG_20200930_103722.jpg?ssl=1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"2048\" data-original-width=\"1152\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-lQKpOptMQbA\/X3VTE0abTDI\/AAAAAAAAAbs\/cUmQgbE8lEU2eTLviBoEctt3N0GT6GBpwCLcBGAsYHQ\/w360-h640\/IMG_20200930_103722.jpg?resize=360%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"360\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">I&#8217;ve also sown some Lamb&#8217;s lettuce and winter lettuce to have some greens in early spring.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">I wanted to sow some more spinach and transplant baby chard, but there was just not enough room to do it. So now I have to change my plans again and find at least 2 more beds that I can clean and deep dig in the next week or two to sow spinach, transplant chard and maybe even sow some garlic and some more onions. I did a sloppy harvest, taking only the vegetables that I saw right away. I&#8217;m sure there were more beans and raspberry left, but I just didn&#8217;t have the time to check every single branch.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">I&#8217;ve harvested some leeks and cabbage for this week&#8217;s lunches, beans, carrots, raspberries, kohlrabi, cucumbers and peppers, and kale. I can&#8217;t just leave it to rot so I harvest the leaves and hate it.
