I was looking forward to this week. The forecast was saying 7 sunny days with temperatures over 20\u00b0C. We haven’t had sunny weather for weeks and I couldn’t wait for some nice weather. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

I was planning to do all my sowing and harvesting and do at least half of the deep digging and then it happened… I got COVID.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that’s something I really didn’t expect. Especially since I haven’t been going anywhere lately. I haven’t been outside of my village for months and my only contacts were my hubby and my parents. I spend most of my days alone with my dog. Still, I got sick.<\/span><\/p>\n

The past week my dad got a temperature slightly above normal. Actually, he didn’t even have a fever, just a day of 37.2\u00b0C temperature and a runny nose. We just thought that he got a cold and since he was feeling fine the next day we just forgot about it. The fun started 5 days later when I got a fever and bad back pain. I had trouble keeping the temperature below 38\u00b0C even with a bunch of pills and I immediately knew it was the Covid gremlin. A couple of days after me my hubby tested positive so now we’re in quarantine.<\/span><\/p>\n

I actually feel fine and can honestly say that I felt worse from the flu. This felt like a stronger spring virus, just a few days of fever and muscle pain and that’s it. I didn’t even cough too much, which is unusual for me because each time when I have the flu I end up coughing for months.<\/span><\/p>\n

I did lose the ability to smell and taste. The taste is slowly coming back and today I can taste everything that has a stronger taste. The mild food is still a bit bland, but I add more salt and vinegar and it tastes great.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now after 6 days I feel good, a bit tired, and still can’t smell but still, I just had to go to the garden today. I had to use this dry weather and sow because we’ll be getting more rain this weekend and there’s no way I’ll be able to do anything after another period of rain. <\/span><\/p>\n

Before I continue I should mention that I live in a place where we have no neighbors, my garden is in my yard and I didn’t endanger anyone by going outside. We’re allowed to go to our yard anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n

So this morning I got up really early and cleaned and prepared the garlic bulbs for sowing. The loss of smell actually worked great and I didn’t smell the garlic while peeling it. \ud83d\ude01<\/span><\/p>\n

I was planning to sow garlic and spinach and transplant chard, but when I got to the garden I realized that the soil is not as dry as I thought it would be. Even though we had 7 dry days it’s still completely wet, so wet that when you take a step the soil is moaning. I wasn’t feeling up to digging wet soil so I just planted the garlic in the bed without digging it. I was supposed to dig it but if it wants to grow on its own in spring then it will grow on a deep dag bed. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

I couldn’t make rows for spinach so I just spread the seeds by tossing them around the bed. If it grows great, if not I’ll sow it in pots and transplant it in early March. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The important thing is that I’m done with all the sowing and planting for this year. I still have to harvest brassicas and carrots, and deep dig the rest of the garden, but this will wait until I fully recover. <\/span><\/p>\n
