 Last August I decided to start buying flower bulbs for my garden. I want to make 2 bulb beds in the garden and a bunch of flower containers around the yard. The first bulbs that I’ve purchased were tulips and daffodils. I managed to buy a nice amount to make two small bulb beds in the garden just to see how they look and to be able to decide where I’ll plant them later.  <\/span><\/p>\n

My new bulbs started blooming in late March. Bridal crown daffodils, Honeymoon, and Blue parrot tulips were the first to bloom.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<\/p>\n

Bridal crown daffodils aren’t as big as “normal” daffodils. The heads are smaller, but with lots of petals. The stem is delicate and the wind can damage them very easily. Because of their height (30cm), they are better in pots. In the garden they get lost in the grass and heads can’t be seen well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike daffodils, The honeymoon tulips are perfect for garden beds. Their snow-white fringed petals are a wonderful contrast to green grass. Stems are strong enough to survive the wind and they aren’t too tall to suffer any damage. Perfect little tulips bloomed almost a month. The only bad thing is that the petals started turning brown from the excess rain we had during April. <\/span><\/p>\n

Blue parrot tulip is a perfect little tulip, except it’s not blue. It’s not even some lavender shade. It’s a perfect purple little tulip with a huge head and big friend petals. They are short, but the heads are so big that they can’t pass unnoticed in the garden. <\/span><\/div>\n

Later during April, the next blooming tulips were Aveyron tulips. They are also short variety, but very pretty with big heads and lots of petals. They look amazing when they all open at the same time.<\/p>\n

The next to bloom were my two black varieties. Black parrot and black hero. <\/span><\/div>\n

They are both very tall and with small heads. The black hero is a bit bigger, peony-looking tulip which could look perfect if protected from the wind.<\/span><\/div>\n

Black parrot is a single petaled fringed variety and also very wind delicate. <\/p>\n

The last ones to bloom were the exquisite tulips. They didn’t even manage to fully open due to the bad weather, but they looked amazing even half-closed. Another peony-looking tulip with purple ruffled petals would have looked excellent in the garden if only we didn’t have so much rain.

After all of my tulips finished blooming I decided to move some of the bulbs. I took out the black parrot, exquisite and black hero, and decided to plant them to the new bed I’ve been making. I haven’t cut the leaves off yet, I’ll do it once they start drying. They will be better here, protected from the wind.<\/span><\/div>\n

The rest of the tulips will stay on the border bed, together with the Aveyron tulips which I’ve moved to the first bed. I will be buying more tulips for next year, probably some more white varieties since the Honeymoon tulips were the ones that were the prettiest. <\/span><\/p>\n
