 This week has been as hot as the past couple of weeks. Mostly temperatures have been over 30\u00b0C(86\u00b0F) with high morning temperatures, but we finally got some rain unlike the past couple of weeks. 25mm of rain was just what we needed. The soil is still cracked and after a couple of days dry, but the rain helped a bit. <\/span><\/p>\n

This week I’ve started harvesting nice amounts of vegetables. I had my first two bigger harvests. Still not too huge harvests but I’ve harvested a kilo of peas, first cucumbers, beans, blackberries, chard for lunch, peppers, and some mint for winter tea. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since June has been extremely dry this is an excellent harvest.<\/span><\/p>\n

As I said before the rain we got this week helped a lot and the garden is doing ok. Beans are still struggling and many of the flowers dry up instead of making pods, but they have started making more this week.

The mulch that I’ve placed last week is already completely dry and helping a bit. The soil under the mulch is a bit wet in the morning and we need all the moisture we can get. Also, the flowers which I use as shade for delicate plants are finally growing so now I have some more shade on the beds. <\/span><\/p>\n

We hope to get some more rain next week because of my freshly sown beds which I’ve sown during the past 2 weeks. Some have germinated and others are waiting for some more rain. <\/span><\/div>\n

Also with the dry soil, it’s more difficult for Sre\u0107ko to dig holes so he’d like some more rain too. Not that it stops him from catching everything that runs or moves. This week he chewed up(and spit) a few more snakes and I had to rescue a frog from him. No wonder I’ve seen slugs in the garden this week.<\/span><\/div>\n

He keeps on evicting all of the animals that keep the slugs away from the garden. Soon I’ll have only Sre\u0107ko and slugs in the garden…oh and the birds, at least until Sre\u0107ko learns how to fly. <\/span><\/div>\n
