After 8 weeks, the seedling shelf is now a small seedling forest. The seedlings that I’ve transplanted last week are growing well, and there haven’t been any lost seedlings. <\/p>\n

This week I’ve decided to transplant my leggy brassicas to bigger pots. I’ve placed them in groups by varieties without separating the individual seedlings. I’ll use these seedlings for a pot garden, so I’ll be able to separate them when transplanting outside. I’ve pulled out some of the seedlings that were too tall, and the rest will now be grown in bigger pots until April.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The brassicas, which I’ve sown last week, are all out. I’ve kept them indoors until they germinated, and then I’ve taken them to the balcony. The temperature on the balcony is now around 10\u00b0C (50\u00b0F), with morning temperatures around 2\u00b0C (35\u00b0F), so the seedlings will be just fine outside.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

With the seedlings that I’ve taken outside last week, my indoors shelf now has plenty of space for all my tomatoes and peppers. The peppers are growing amazingly, and in another week or so the seedlings in the bigger containers will be ready for transplanting. The chili peppers will also soon be ready for first tip chopping to make them grow bushier. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Tomatoes have also grown really nicely in the new pots. I did leave more seedlings in each pot than I’d usually do, but that’s because I’ll be planting my seedlings a bit differently. I will make a sort of a fence, with the tomatoes which will be planted like big bushes tied with a string, so I don’t have to worry about the number of plants in one house. There won’t be any plants around the “fence”, so they will have plenty of space to grow. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The only thing on the shelf that wasn’t too successful is my flower seedlings. There are some varieties, like sage, that are growing really good, but there are dozens that didn’t germinate. I’m not too sad about it, this is what happens when you buy seeds instead of seedlings. Some varieties just refuse to grow easily from seeds, and you need dozens of tries to grow a single plant.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Since I have plenty of room right now in my seedling shelves I’ve sown some more lettuce and kohlrabi yesterday. I’ll use these seedlings for transplanting and early crops. I’ve left these containers outside since the weather is really nice. <\/p>\n

Right now, there’s not much that needs to be done here, just the pepper transplanting, which I’ll do next week and then I’ll slowly start with cucumber sowing. I’ll probably sow everything together and transplant it to individual containers later, as this is turning out to be the easiest way to care for the small seedlings. The individual containers are great, but they are a real pain when it comes to watering the delicate seedlings.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Now I can only hope we won’t have a very cold period since I have no idea where I’ll place all the seedlings if I’ll have to bring everything indoors. <\/p>\n
