New roses

Roses are plants that I’ve always adored, but I never had much luck with. Usually, when I bought roses they were never what I wanted. The only rose that was actually what I wanted was my lily rose, which I got when I was 15 years old. It was growing nicely for many years, but a few years ago it started drying up, and last year it died completely.

This is why I decided to buy a couple of new roses this year. After looking around I decided to buy Mainzer Fastnacht lavender color rose, which is very similar to my old rose, and a Sieberz mix of Parfum de Provence roses. The mix comes with 4 roses and I had no idea which one I’ll get, but it didn’t matter to me since I like all of them.

Last week was the time to plant them, so after soaking them in water for 24h, I took them to the garden to plant.

As I mentioned in my previous posts, I decided to add rose bushes to my strawberry/tulip bed, so I’ve planted 3 of them here. These roses shouldn’t be big, so they will have plenty of room here. The Mainzer Fastnacht was planted next to my two steps so that I can look at it every time I enter the garden, and two were placed above and next to the strawberries. I went with the lily and pink ones for this bed.

The remaining two, the yellow and red ones, were placed on opposite parts of the garden. The yellow one was placed on the opposite side of the entrance steps, and the red one ended up in the garden under my lavender bushes. I have already placed here some Daylilies, so they will look nice together. Srećko was, of course, helping me dig.

Since mornings can still be a bit cold, I’ve placed some hay around them. Also, it has been very dry, so this way I don’t have to water them every day.

Hopefully, all of them will continue growing and soon I’ll have some new garden rosos.
