Another storm

It is now becoming a pattern. A week of good, even hot weather, is interrupted by a storm at the end of the weekend. The same thing happened this week. This time after the summer temperatures and intense heat, the weather change came abruptly. The wind again did a lot of damage. The strong north wind completely tore down my hail defense and damaged some of the plants. Luckily there was no hail, but the rain looked a lot like a monsoon and in just a couple of minutes half of the garden was flooded and the paths turned into small rivers.

I can’t really do much in the garden right now, it is just too wet. Hubby managed to go inside right after the storm and fix the agro textile but gave up on further inspection since it is just too slippery. I managed to take a walk around the garden 24h after the storm, and check the rest of the beds, but it’s still too slippery to do any work. You take two steps up the hill and slip back one step.

From what I can see, the biggest damage is on the broad beans. They are all on the floor. I won’t touch them and force them up. The stems seem strong enough to lift themselves, so maybe they will be fine. I’m afraid if I touch them I will break them while tying them.

The rest of the plants seem ok, the covers were all damaged and torn, but they did their work and all of the seedlings are ok.

Outside of the main garden the onion bed also got damaged by the water that was left standing inside. I’m not sure if the lettuce will be able to recuperate from the flood. Onions are also damaged by the wind, but it doesn’t matter since they will continue growing anyway.

The rest of the plants in the yard were luckily safe since we had time to hide all the pots and cover most of the beds. This has now been 3rd storm in 3 weeks, and I’m honestly not sure how much longer we’ll be able to dodge the damaging hail bullet, especially since the temperature has been rising so much lately. I honestly can’t wait for July and the stormy season to end.
