New flowers

I’m not really a gift-loving person. I don’t like celebrations, birthdays or gifts. But one thing I do love is getting new flowers. After a couple of disastrous gifts, my hubby learned the lesson, and now every time he wants to buy me something, he buys me flowers. This year I got a bunch of new flowers for Valentine’s Day and Women’s Day.

On Valentine’s day, hubby brought me a Guzmania. A pretty little house plant with a beautiful red center has been placed in the living room and it has been there for the past month. I know that once the plant flowers it will start dying off, but I’m hoping it will make some baby plants before dying.

On Women’s Day hubby got me a trio of spring plants Cyclamen, Primula, and Hyacinth.

I’ve kept Hyacinth and Cyclamen indoors and Primrose outside on the balcony. Cyclamen is usually kept here as an indoor plant. We have wild cyclamen in our forests that are protected and we can’t pick them, so we mostly keep the bought one in the house.

Primrose enjoys its new home next to our entrance door, where I can see it every day. It has more flowers than before, and it’s showing new buds every day. It probably won’t last long after the days get warmer, but right now it is enjoying the new pot. The best thing is that this primrose has an amazing sweet scent that fills your nose as soon as you step close.
But the best little surprise was hyacinth. Not that other flowers were less pretty, but the hyacinth was an actual surprise. It came completely green and I had to wait a week for it to open. A few days back it finally started opening and it turned out the flowers are baby pink. While we were waiting for the color I was certain that it would be white or pink, and it turned out I was right. The pretty pink flowers are getting bigger every day. The whole living room smells of hyacinth, and the flower keeps getting bigger and bigger. Once it stops flowering I will plant it in the garden next to my purple hyacinths.

Now I’ve started to think that I need to come up with more important dates so that I could get more new flowers. Earth Day is around the corner, maybe this would be a good time to get a nice flowery surprise.

More events sounds like a plan. The centre of the guzmania looks like a water lily.
